Despite being over a decade old, GTA Online is one of the most sought-after games and here’s how may people play it as of May 2024.

Thanks to heists and a great roster of vehicles you can drift around in Los Santos, GTA Online is expected to be the go-to game for many players until Grand Theft Auto 6 comes out.

Thanks to the sequel announcement, the hype around GTA Online has put it back on the Steam charts, and here’s its player count in May 2024.

GTA Online 2024 Steam player count

According to Steam Charts, GTA Online has averaged a total of 93,474 players, in the last thirty days, with peak players being 161,930. At the time, of writing, 126,376 players were online in the game just an hour ago.

However, keep in mind that Steam only makes up a fraction of GTA Online’s player base. The game is also available on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 5, and the Epic Games Store, so the complete numbers taking into account every other platform would be quite high.

What is GTA Online’s peak player count?

GTA Online hit an all-time peak player count of 360,761 back in April 2015 — when it first arrived on PC. The next highest peak player count was 267,360 in February 2020.

It’s safe to say that GTA Online isn’t ‘dead,’ with the game having a healthy player base across Steam and Epic Games, and the next-gen edition likely brought in hundreds of thousands more.
