Apex Legends players spot new melee weapon similar to Halo’s Energy Sword

Apex Legends is getting a brand-new season to spice things up, as the Season 20 update has officially been revealed.
Titled Breakout, Season 20 will introduce a bunch of new content for players, from the new Legend Upgrades and LTMs to a ranked overhaul, which players have been patiently awaiting.
While the new season may not be bringing a new Legend, the devs did accidentally leak a new character, and that’s not all, as players also spotted an interesting melee weapon that they have likened to Halo’s Energy Sword.
In an Apex Legends thread on Reddit discussing the Breakout launch trailer, players mentioned the melee weapon Lifeline held during one of the scenes.
In the comments, an Apex Legends player said, “the most notable thing is the melee weapon Lifeline was holding.” The Support character can be seen in the trailer running around and taking people out with a new one-handed melee weapon that has a blue glow.
This sparked some debate, as Apex Legends players started speculating what this new melee weapon could be. Some believe it could be a remodel of the Buster Sword from the Final Fantasy event: “Devs already created the animations for a melee weapon with the buster sword. Change the models and bam. New melee weapon.”
Others believe it will be the “new universal Heirloom dagger that recently got leaked,” which would make it the second of its kind behind the Buster Sword.
One player even asked, “Was…Lifeline holding an Energy sword?” comparing the melee weapon seen in the Apex Legends Breakout trailer to Halo’s iconic weapon.
These melee weapons do share some similarities in shape and color, but as a comment under the user’s question suggested, its size is a big differential between the two: “More like an energy dagger.”
We’ll have to wait and see what this new melee weapon is in Apex Legends Season 20, as there isn’t much information out there. It’s unclear whether it’s the new leaked universal Heirloom or something else entirely, but we’ll be sure to update you.
