MultiVersus: How to unlock characters
MultiVersus players can unlock characters through the Collection section of the game with three different methods:
- Gold is Multiversus’ free currency players can get by completing missions and leveling up. Characters can be unlocked by spending between 1,500 and 3,000 Gold.
- Gleamium is MultiVersus’ premium currency you can get with real-life money, and you’ll need 700 Gleamium to unlock any fighter in MultiVersus.
- Character Tickets unlock characters automatically, but these were only available through Founder’s Packs during the beta.
When starting the game, you’ll unlock a couple of characters thanks to the tutorial, but you’ll need to level up and play different game modes to get currency. Multiversus’ beta also featured a free character rotation each week, giving players the chance to try characters without needing to buy them.
All this information is based on MultiVersus’ beta, so we’ll make sure to update this guide if anything changes with the full release.
MultiVersus roles explained
MultiVersus characters can fit one of the five different roles in the game, and here is everything you need to know about each one:
- Assassin characters focus on dealing damage to their opponents and don’t have any other special abilities.
- Bruiser fighters are all about dealing damage as well, but these characters have other abilities, like status-inflicting attacks, that can surprise enemies. For example, Batman has different gadgets to get out of sticky situations.
- Mage/Ranged characters are pretty straightforward and focus on dealing damage from a distance. For now, this category is the hardest to master in MultiVersus.
- Support fighters can provide healing and buffs to allies, as well as shields, depending on the character.
- Tank characters can take a beating while also dealing damage and sometimes providing support for their team. These are the toughest characters to defeat, as you’ll need to kick them out of the stage to do so.
MultiVersus character tier list: Best fighters ranked
Here’s a MultiVersus character tier list based on the latest stage of its beta:
Tier | Characters |
---|---|
S | Bugs Bunny, Velma, Finn the Human, Superman, Tom & Jerry, Shaggy |
A | Reindog, Iron Giant, Wonder Woman, Batman, Harley Quinn, Stripe |
B | Steven Universe, LeBron James, Jake the Dog, Rick |
C | Garnet, Arya Stark, Taz, Morty |
D | Gizmo, Black Adam, Marvin the Martian |
Not released | Joker, Jason Voorhees, Agent Smith |
This tier list is based on MultiVersus’ beta, so you can expect many changes after the official release, as gameplay mechanics and other features will likely receive fine-tuning. On the other hand, it’s important to note that this doesn’t mean you can’t win battles with lower-tiered characters, as each fighter boasts unique gameplay that may pair well with your playstyle.
