Beating Steel-type Pokemon can be a difficult task due to their tanky nature and the type only has a handful of weaknesses. To help you beat the likes of Dialga, Metagross, Aggron, and Scizor, here are all Steel-type Pokemon weaknesses and resistances.

Steel-type Pokemon were introduced to the franchise in the second generation of games and they instantly became a hit among fans due to their brilliant defense. Some of the strongest types such as Dragon and Ice struggle against these Pokemon, and the only way you can expect a win is by exploiting their weaknesses.

There’s an abundance of powerful Steel-type Pokemon, ranging from classics like Aggron and Metagross to Legendaries like Registeel and Dialga. To never be intimidated by these names again, here’s a list of Steel-type weaknesses and resistances.

What are Steel-type Pokemon?

Steel-type Pokemon are easy to spot since they have a lot of metal in their designs and sometimes look like robots or futuristic creatures.

They were introduced in Gen 2 along with Dark-type Pokemon to balance out Normal and Psychic-type Pokemon that were overpowered in Gen 1. On average, Steel-type Pokemon have the highest Physical Defense of all types.

Although the number of resistances decreased in Gen 6, Steel is still the most resistant type of them all with ten in total. Pure Steel-type Pokemon can’t be poisoned, except when affected by the Corrosion ability, and can’t be hurt by Sandstorms.

A lot of Steel-type Pokemon are dual types, which means their resistances can stack up to 12. Luckily, they also have weaknesses to exploit.

All Steel-type Pokemon weaknesses

Steel-type Pokemon are weak against Fire, Ground, and Fighting-type moves. If you’re fighting a Steel-type Pokemon, you should rely on those categories for a quick victory.

While there are some dual Fighting/Fire and Fighting/Ground-type Pokemon you can pick, you should also keep in mind that many Steel-type Pokemon are dual types with different weaknesses to acknowledge.

Steel-type moves are not very effective against Electric-type Pokemon, so you can also use that to your advantage.

All Steel-type Pokemon resistances

Steel-type Pokemon can resist the following types of attacks:

It’s important to note that pure Steel-type Pokemon are also immune to Poison-type moves, so you should stick with super-effective Fire, Ground, and Fighting-type attacks just to be sure.

Although they won’t be a walk in the park, now you’re ready to take on any Steel-type Pokemon in your way, whether you’re playing Pokemon Go, Scarlet and Violet, or any other adventure.
