What are Legacy items in Diablo 4? Gear explained

If you’ve previously had characters in the Eternal Realm in Diablo 4, then you must’ve noticed that they’re marked as Legacy Gear. So what is this Legacy Gear, and can you use them in the game?

Blizzard gave the entire itemization and crafting system a massive overhaul in the Diablo 4 Season 4 update. Whatever gear that you get from Season 4 onwards will be compatible with this new system.

However, anyone who’s been playing before this season will have items that aren’t compatible with the new crafting systems. So, what do you do with these gear pieces, and what are they called?

Diablo 4 Legacy Gear explained

Any item that you’ve acquired before Diablo 4 Season 4 is known as Legacy Gear and is represented by a red skull on top of it.

You cannot upgrade your Legacy Gear.

It’s also worth noting that these Legacy Gear pieces are restricted to the Eternal Realm only. Since you always create a new character whenever a new season arrives in Diablo 4, it’s impossible to have Legacy Items in the Seasonal Realm.

Can you use Legacy Items in Diablo 4?

Yes, you can use Legacy Gear in Diablo 4, but there’s a catch. Since these items are not compatible with the current upgrading systems in the game, you cannot modify them in any way.

So, it’s best if you use them once you get access to items of the same stats in Diablo 4, and then discard them based on the items that you’ve replaced.

Technically, you can use all your Legacy Items for high-level content as well, but the fact that you won’t be able to upgrade or modify them makes them somewhat weaker and inferior to the equipment that you will come across in a new season.

That sums up everything you need to know about Legacy Gear in Diablo 4. For more information about the game, be sure to check out:
